8.02.10 >> CJ ran one hell of a
race at the VDKA in jr. restricted heavy. I thought he was
gonna get his first VDKA win of the year. CJ is getting into
his comfort zone and will be hard to beat at the next VDKA
race at Amelia! This weekend is the Burris Tire Series @
Hunterstown Speedway.
7.26.10
>> CJ has gotten back on track
with back to back weekends with wins! CJ won jr. restricted
lite / heavy / pro $$ at Shellhammer's Speedway on Saturday
night and continued his speed on Sunday at the PDKS race until
the rains came and cancelled the event. With the help on 220
Kart Shop & Thomas Underwood CJ has matured as a driver a ton
this year and continues to amaze me!
6.16.10
>> I guess we were due a
bad PDKS day. We just could not find bite and had a 6th and
8th place finish. We'll get back on track at Shippensburg on
July 11th.
6.03.10
>> Getting ready for
June racing ! Hopefully we can keep things rolling....We had a
great start in the PDKS and the Burris Series leading the
points in both of those race series' and got a slower start in
the VDKA, but are slowing moving forward in those points, CJ
is 3rd in heavy and 4th in lites in the VDKA. I set up a
twitter account for CJ. We
have a PDKS race on June 13th and 2 VDKA races on June 12th
and 26th. CJ will be racing @ Flatrun Speedway for their July
4th weekend of races, in stock lite and stock medium.
4.26.10 >> I have to keep
telling myself CJ is only 12 years old......he's making his
dad proud this year !!
4.20.10 >> WOW!!! What a year so
far. Our 220 Kart Shop / Falcon Firehawk / Kirby Speed Secrets
kart has just been unbelievable. If CJ isn't winning he's
finishing 2nd. I couldn't ask for anything else from our
tires, motor or CJ. We have been hitting it at every track.
Special thanks to Josh from 220 Kart Shop for great tires and
chassis, Thomas Underwood for taking time to talk with
CJ...his talent and race experience has been great for CJ and
James Kirby for the best motors !! The competition
level at the Burris Series, PDKS and VDKA are top notch this
year.
3.15.10
>> This will be the last free
weekend for a while! CJ and I are heading to Williams Grove
Friday night and then Shippensburg to watch their first day of
practice / racing and then to Lincoln Saturday night. Our
schedule has us racing 8 times in April in 3 states.....we
will be traveling a bunch this year, getting our 2010 Falcon /
Firehawk it's workout. Special thanks to 220 Kart Shop, Kirby
Speed Secrets, Stiffie Clutches and SPL Oil for all your
support!
10.26.09
>> CJ has the SWINE !!!
We missed the race at Greenwood Raceway this past weekend.
CJ will be off school until this Thursday, getting rid of the
swine and resting up for Trail-Ways this Saturday the 31st.
8.24.09
>> What a season so far!! We
have no budget this year, we are running on fumes, have no
good tires left in the trailer and CJ still manages 19 feature
wins so far this season, wrapped up the points championship in
the Burris Tire Series @ Hunterstown Speedway, is on his way
to his 4th track championship at Shippensburg Speedway and CJ
is running 3rd in the State Series. We have a few more races
in Jr. II, then CJ will move up to Jr. restricted for 5-7
races at the end of 2009, to get ready for the 2010 season. As
always, thanks to Kirby Speed Secrets, SPL Oil, Stiffie
Clutches, Prowler Karts and everyone else who has helped CJ
out this year!
6.22.09
>> Well, we are about at the halfway point
of the 2009 season. It's been a pretty good year so far. The
competition this year at the local tracks, Burris Tire Series
and the PDKS races is extremely tough this year in CJ's class.
CJ had 7 wins all last year and so far this year he has
doubled that with 14 wins. CJ is first in points at
Shippensburg and the Burris Tire Series and 2nd in lites and
3rd in heavy's, in the PDKS. Some of CJ's toughest competitors
this year are Gavyn Deiter, Owen Dubble, Ryan Montgomery,
Spencer Davis, "little" Quentin Graham and I'm sure a few more
that I'm not thinking of. We plan on doing some traveling down
South in the fall to collect some "Southern Money". As always,
CJ couldn't be as fast without help from James Kirby / Kirby
Speed Secrets, Stiffie Clutches, SPL Oil, Prowler Karts and
Kirby Preps!!
5.28.09 >> Last Friday CJ got his finger slammed in
a door at school, by accident when he and a buddy were fooling
around in the bathroom. He raced Friday night to a close 2nd
to another school buddy Gavyn Deiter. After the race at
Shippensburg on Friday night, we stopped by the ER at Carlisle
Hospital and we had a doctor basically drill a hole through
his finger nail, to relieve the pressure. Blood went
everywhere!! The finger was sore for Saturday night racing at
Shellhammer's, but CJ wanted to race and he did and won. The
finger nail is completely black now and really swollen, but CJ
says it doesn't hurt. So we'll race this weekend and hopefully
he doesn't "bang" it anymore and it heals quickly. The only
thing really hurting is CJ's 4 wheeler, which he hasn't been
able to ride for the past week :)
5.20.09
>> CJ racked up another 2 feature wins this
past weekend. Sunday was a very interesting day at the PDKS
race. We had the right tires and gearing...the track was so
funky, we only missed with a little air pressure. We time
trialed good but I couldn't figure out what the damn track was
doing. One class would be picking up, the next would be
slowing down and then the next would be the same. So I went
conservative with air and CJ got locked down after a few green
flag laps...he held on as long as he could. CJ finished 7th in
lite's and 6th in heavy's out of 24 karts. Not a really good
day for us, but we maintain our championship hopes and will be
up front racing for some wins at the next PDKS June 14th at
Shellhammer's Speedway.
5.12.09
>> What a year so far... With the purchase
of our new Prowler Chassis in 2008, we struggled to make it
fast the first half of 2008 and had only 7 wins all
last year and so far this year we have 8, including a win and
a 2nd at the first PDKS race. We love our Prowler Kart, a
great engine from James Kirby, clutch from Stiffie and our oil
sponsorship through SPL, is a winning combination so far in
2009, not to forget great Friday night tires from Al's Kart
Supply - AKS Tires and Kirby Preps. This weekend is race #2 of
the PDKS at Greenwood Valley Action Track. The Jr. II class is
stacked with competition and great drivers and we are looking
forward to a great race on Sunday.
4.29.09 >> With money being so tight this year, we decided not
to run the WKA national series and just focus on winning every
race we can at the local and state level. I just saw the kart
count for the first WKA national dirt race in
Margaretteville's this past weekend. 4 karts in CJ's class
(jr. II) are you freakin' kidding me !! Thank God we decided
not to run the national series. You spend $1,200 - $1,500 each
race, no matter if you are racing 22 karts or 4 karts. The
PDKS had 22 karts in CJ's class at the first race and a total
of 419 karts. The PDKS is the premier series...not doubt.
4.27.09 >> CJ sweeps the weekend!! Winning
Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This weekend will be race #2 of
the Burris Tire Series @ Hunterstown.
4.20.09 >> CJ had another GREAT weekend! CJ won on
Friday night at Shippensburg....then Sunday was race#1 of the
PDKS at Selinsgrove Raceway Park. CJ was really fast during
practice, which always worries me...we kept up with the track,
CJ told me when to change tires and he had 2 good qualifying
runs. We adjusted for the features and CJ drove his ass off to
get around Ryan Montgomery on the last lap, on the outside of
turns 3 and 4 to take the win in Jr. II lite...I was screaming
like a little girl!! CJ's buddy, Gavyn Deiter was involved in
a nasty crash at the beginning of the Jr. II lite class...he
walked away but very sore and lucky not be seriously hurt.
James Kirby from Kirby Speed Secrets gave us a great
motor, along with an awesome clutch from Stiffie Clutches and
our oil from SPL...thanks!!
4.14.09 >> What a weekend! Last year it took us
until June to get our first win with the new Prowler Chassis.
CJ won heat and feature at Shippensburg on Friday night,
giving him win #2 of the 2009 season. Saturday CJ ran Jr. II
and Jr. restricted at Hunterstown. His kart was fast all night
and should of won both heats and both features, but some motor
trouble stopped that. CJ did win his heat in Jr.
Restricted and a valve spring broke in the Jr. II heat, while
CJ was leading. This weekend is Race #1 of the PDKS...this
will be a big test for the Rocket Race team!!
4.09.09 >> This weekend we'll attempt to run 2
classes at Hunterstown, Jr. II and Jr. restricted. This will
be CJ's first time racing with a jr. restricted motor.
4.06.09 >> CJ won on Saturday night at
Hunterstown. Sunday he were fighting a slight push during
practice and time trials at the Burris Tire Series race. We
got that fixed for the feature, but then went the wrong way on
gearing...stupid mistake. I'll be kicking myself a while over
this one! CJ ran 4th all
race....we just didn't have enough to get to the leaders.
Gavyn Deiter won the race on Sunday.
4.02.09 >> This weekend is Shippensburg on Friday
night, Hunterstown on Saturday and the Burris Tire Series @
Hunterstown on Sunday. I just got my tires back from AKS Tire
Services and began my prepping on the 55's for the first
Burris Tire Series race and getting them ready for Race #1 of
the PDKS Series on April 19th at Selinsgrove Raceway Park.
Since we took all the traveling out of the 2009 season, CJ
decided to run for points at Shippensburg and Hunterstown on a
weekly basis and also run for points in the PDKS and the
Burris Tire Series at Hunterstown.
3.30.09 >> Well, like usual we struggle at the
beginning of the year. CJ started 3rd in his heat on Friday
night at Shippensburg and finished 2nd. The rains came and
cancelled the features. We are still just a bit off, but are
really close to fine tuning the kart and getting it where we need
it. The #24 of James Loveless has really looked good early on
this season and looks to be a handful this year at
Shippensburg. This weekend is the Burris Tire Series Race #1 at
Hunterstown Speedway.
3.26.09 >> This is the first entry in "Dad's Blog" Over
the 2009 season, I will be ranting, complaining, praising and
everything in between about racing and CJ's life on and off
the track....including his 2 sisters! Right now the 2009
season is just about ready to get underway and the Rocket race
team has already made major schedule changes due to the lack
of $$$$.
We were
planning on running the WKA National Series, Delaware State
Series and a few races down South....they have all been takin'
off the schedule. We are still running for points in the PDKS
(WKA State Divisional),
Burris Tire Series @ Hunterstown and Shippensburg Speedway. CJ
is a 2 time track champion at Shippensburg and the 2007 PDKS
Champion. We are looking forward to racing these series' and
local tracks, including Shippensburg, Hunterstown and
Shellhammer's.
This weekend will send the
Rocket Race Team to Shippensburg on Friday night and
Hunterstown on Saturday.
Also, CJ has been chosen to
represent "TEAM SPL" as their junior driver for the 2009
season. SPL is a Lubricant company that has developed racing
oil for 2 & 4 cycle kart motors. Learn more about SPL.
